OpenAI has recently announced the opening of a new experience on the ChatGPT platform called ChatGPT Health specifically to answer health and wellness questions of users. The functionality will enable users to safely link their medical history and health-related applications in such a way that the responses of the AI are based on personal information.
The company emphasizes that the issues of health and wellness are already one of the most frequent classes of questions included in ChatGPT, and hundreds of millions of users address the questions on these matters weekly. Through ChatGPT Health, such interactions will be held in a distinct, secure environment which is not related to ordinary chats and has enhanced encryption and privacy features. OpenAI confirms that the information that will be posted in this health experience will not be utilized in training its broader AI models.
The apps that can be connected are Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and other wellness services, and medical record integration is possible in the United States in a partnership with the health data network b.well. When linked, the AI will be able to explain laboratory findings, monitor trends over time, prepare appointments, and provide some general wellness services. OpenAI has also pointed out that the point of this tool is not to diagnose or treat medical conditions and it should not substitute a visit to a healthcare professional.
ChatGPT Health is being released on a waitlist followed by a gradual release. The feature is currently available to users outside of some regions at launch on web and on iOS, such as the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and United Kingdom, and will be implemented more widely over the next few weeks.
